Supplement subscriptions: how to spot a lock-in, and how ours works

Some of the angriest reviews in the supplement world aren't about the product at all. They're about the subscription: "cancelled and still got charged", "locked into 12 months without realising", "price went up after the third month", "you can only buy packs of four". If you've been burned, you're not being paranoid. Here is what to check, and how we've set ours up.
Five things to check before you subscribe to anything
- Minimum term. Is there one? A "12-week programme" that is actually a 12-month contract is the classic trap. Look for the words "minimum", "commitment" or "term" in the terms of service, not just the product page.
- Introductory pricing. If the first delivery is discounted, what does delivery four cost? It should be stated in plain numbers before you pay.
- Cancellation cut-off. How many days before the next billing date must you cancel? "Any time" should mean any time before the next charge, from your account, without phoning anyone.
- Pause and skip. Can you skip a month if you're away, without cancelling?
- Exit cost. Is there a fee, a return-postage cost or a "you must return the unused stock" clause? There shouldn't be.
In the UK, the Consumer Contracts Regulations give you 14 days to cancel an online contract, and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 is bringing in tighter rules on subscription contracts, including clear pre-contract information and reminders before renewal. A brand that makes cancelling hard is not just annoying, it's increasingly on the wrong side of the law.
How the VH Life subscription works
- What you get: two boxes, 28 sachets, every four weeks.
- What it costs: £49.99 per delivery, which is £1.79 a day. One box bought on its own is £34.99, so the subscription is the cheaper way to take it daily.
- Minimum term: none.
- Introductory rate: there isn't one. The subscription price is the standard price shown on the product page, not a first-month offer that jumps later.
- Cancelling: pause or cancel any time before your next billing date, from your account or by emailing info@vhlifelongevity.com. Cancelling stops all future charges. No fee.
- Shipping: free UK shipping on every order, no minimum.
If you don't want a subscription at all
You don't need one. A single box is £34.99 with nothing recurring, and the 7-sachet trial is £12.99, one payment, one per customer. Several reviewers of other brands specifically praised "no subscription pressure". We agree with them.
One honest caveat
A subscription only saves you money if you actually take the product daily. If boxes are piling up in the cupboard, pause it. The point of a daily supplement is the daily part.
