What supports normal muscle function and electrolyte balance?

After training you need water and the sodium and potassium lost in sweat, carbohydrate, 20 to 40g of protein and sleep. Among nutrients, magnesium, calcium and potassium contribute to normal muscle function, and magnesium to electrolyte balance. No claim is authorised for "recovery". VH Life provides all three at claim level; it is not a protein source.

Updated Checked against the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register (19 May 2026 edition)

What do you lose when you sweat?

Mostly water and sodium, with some potassium, magnesium and calcium; a hard hour can cost a litre of sweat. The NHS advice is to drink until your urine is pale, and replace salts after long or hot sessions.

What helps after training?

  • 20 to 40g of protein in the hours after.
  • Carbohydrate sized to the session.
  • Water, plus sodium and potassium from food.
  • Sleep.

Creatine, at 3g a day, "increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise". VH Life contains none.

Can a supplement claim to help recovery?

No. No authorised claim exists for "recovery", "muscle repair" or "reduces soreness", and BCAAs, glutamine and taurine have none. We make no claim for the amino acids in VH Life.

Training and electrolytes: common questions

  • Is VH Life an electrolyte drink?
It contains potassium, magnesium, calcium and Himalayan salt, and magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance. It is lower in sodium than a sports electrolyte, so add salt for long, hot sessions.
  • Does VH Life contain creatine or protein?
No. It is not a protein or creatine product; take those separately if you use them.
  • Is VH Life tested for sport?
The box carries the LGC Tested for Sport (anti-doping) mark. Athletes in a testing programme should still check their federation's rules.
